When you get up close to the scaffolding, it's really, like, impressive.
Like how how it's put together and how big it is.
Hayes Scriven, site manager here at Split Rock Lighthouse.
On March 1st, we started a restoration project on the lighthouse.
Mainly some interior and exterior brick repair and concrete repair.
This is the actual humidity in the building right now.
It's at 85%.
And that is all being caused by moisture issues that we have going on within the lighthouse itself.
It's a fairly common problem that lighthouses have when they get converted from, like, their original use of an activated navigation to like a museum or something else.
And so what we're looking to do is, install a Hvac system that basically moves the air through the building more freely.
But you can still see the building behind the scaffolding.
The buildings are typically not open at this time of year.
So we're able to offer our normal program here in the visitor center.
And on the historic site, so guests can still feel free to come up to see the lighthouse.
It just that view will be a little bit different.
With all of this going on, we've also introduced, in March and April, something different.
And that's where we've introduced this hardhat tours, where where guests can actually go inside the lighthouse and see restoration work in progress.
We're only offering them on the weekends when there's not any active construction going on.
So Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can book it online and just to be here and see this restoration in progress is kind of neat.
