I love making short films.
Since 2002, I was producing a traveling film festival.
So collecting, it started as a thing to collect films from friends of mine and then treat it like a punk band 'cause I played in punk bands.
I loved the DIY ethic of punk rock where you can like, make your own band, put out your own records, put out your own zines.
And at that time there was people making zines, people making records.
And then you can put your songs together and play a show that you booked and make the flyer, and I wasn't seeing that much in film and I felt like film had this like, pedestal to it and I was like, oh, it'd be nice to treat a film festival like a punk rock band.
And so taking a bunch of films, like a set of music and taking that on the road with a projector, screen, sound system, you know, and popping up in cities and sometimes playing with bands and things like that.
So the curation, presentation of short film was always really exciting to me.
And then through that, wanting to make as many short films as I could, so documentaries, narratives, music videos, having as much fun with the medium as I can, you know, as opposed to, I don't know, I like the opus idea but I also like the, like honing your craft while working.
In fact, at the beginning when we were doing our film festival, our thought was, well, short films have a short shelf-life.
You know, they exist and then they don't.
And not a lot of people, not that they don't, but not a lot of people get to see them because they were mostly presented at film festivals and maybe if they're lucky they get on a television program or get broadcasted in some way.
But even that, it's hard unless it's a collection or like a magazine show or something like that.
So that short medium, for a long time, was really impossible to find pre-YouTube and the internet kinda showcasing short mediums.
So I loved the idea of getting as many of those together and showing them to more people and showing them.
And then when the internet did come around and started showing short films, showing them on screens with sound, and not on, you know, phones or computer screens, but we then saw our role as like kinda the curatorial thing of like getting stuff.
There's so much out there now.
So then getting stuff together kinda similar to this program, like there's so much out there.
So to be able to grab some things that you like and put them together in one.
