We're also meeting up with a very special hiking group.
Are you ready to do this new gig?
Kit.
All right.
Today's all about hiking with .. Come on, let's go.
Fletcher Canyon Trail is the scenic 3.8 mile ro.. The trail begins at approximately 60 800ft elevation and ascends through a forest landscape.
This is a moderately challenging trail and known for its natural beauty and accessibility, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
I caught up with Taylor with the U.S.
Forest Service to learn more about the area.
Let's talk about how we get here.
Parking.
But you do have to cross the street.
Let's talk about safety first, right?
Yes.
So our parking lot for this trail is actually on the other side of the road.
We do have a marked and signed crosswalk for you to go across.
It is a little bit on a hill, so you do want to pause, make sure there's no cars coming fast.
Make sure they see you.
It's a lot easier for you to see them than to see you.
So take a pause and then cross the street safely.
Yeah, and make sure you hold on to the kiddos and your dogs.
Get everybody involved.
And let's talk about what makes this hike so very special right here, especially for families and families with dogs.
In comparison to most of the trails, Fletcher Canyon is more on the easy end.
It's very family friendly, very kid friendly, and very dog friendly.
I mean, there's a little bit of everything for every user group here on this trail.
And let's talk about these views.
Incredible.
Breathtaking.
Yes.
I mean, at any given time, if you're from Las Vegas, you know that that is going to be like 100 degrees and it might be anywhere from like 70 to 80 up here.
So perfect for big furry friends like Yuki here.
Hi, Yuki.
And let's talk about etiquette when it comes to hiking.
Not just for families with dogs, but everyone.
Yes.
So hiking etiquette you really want to know before you go, know what kind of terrain you're getting into, how cramped it is.
Be aware of your, furry friend.
And if you know, make sure they're on a leash.
Make sure that, like, if they're not very socialized, that you're maybe going to more, remote trails.
So that way they have more room to roam.
And just know how popular the trail is, because on Memorial Day weekend or any weekend really, you could be running into 50 other families that are trying to enjoy it just like you.
Yeah, and keep them on the leash.
Right?
Yes.
Always keep them on the leash.
Yeah.
Another thing that irks me sometimes, and I just saw whenever there is poop, they pick it up, put it in a bag and then just leave it on the side of the road when there are plenty of trash cans.
Yeah.
So one thing you know, we all have those poop carrying bags.
And you know that etiquette for the trail is definitely pick up the litter that your dog creates.
And don't create more litter.
So it's not, like super fun and exciting to hike the poop out.
But that's what you should do.
That's the responsible thing to do for the trail.
So if you're going to have your furry friend with you, make sure that you take the bags with you.
And when they do poop, pick it up and take it out with you.
Taylor, thank you so much for what you do and your entire team.
We appreciate you so much.
I'm excited to go explore the area with the Miyuki.
Perfect.
All right.
Hope you enjoy.
Thank you.
Yuki and I were ready to hit the trail, but first, meet our hiking buddies.
Because I might be breaking.
Yuki and I have enjoyed many wonderful hikes together.
This one is definitely a favorite.
This looks like a good spot.
What do you guys think?
All right.
My dogs like.. A little water time.
All right, so, Christine, tell us about this hike.
Have you done it before?
I have done this hike.
This is probably, like, one of the more popular hikes up he.. It's, you know, really, you can get to get to it very well, Mark.
Yeah.
So it's really easy on the dogs too.
So I see they're taking a little break right now.
And what I love about these areas is that there is shade and coverage.
And that's so important.
When you're bringing out your dog.
What do you have to be mindful of when you come out here?
Definitely the temperatures.
Yeah.
You want to make sure that it stays cool enough for the dogs.
We like to hike a little earlier.
So that way the you know, the dogs don't get overheated.
Dogs do get overheated very easily, a lot quicker than us.
Plenty of water, right?
Yes, yes.
And getting water and take those breaks especially for them.
Although Yuki just wants to keep on going.
But take those breaks, right?
We need them for the dogs and for us.
Yes, exactly.
Yeah.
Lots of breaks, lots of water.
You definitely have to be mindful that you're not just carrying water for yourself, but you're carrying water for your dog.
Yes.
So you want to make sure you have lots of water.
You never know what's going to happen.
This might only be a three mile hike, but what if you know something happens?
You want extra water?
And you mentioned something that's really important.
You said might just be a three mile hike.
That's a long way to go.
Especially if it's a smaller dog with little legs.
And when do you know that it's time to turn around?
Or when?
What should you be on th.. When you're looking at your dog, you're thinking, wait a minute, now it's getting too hot and he's panting a lot.
Time to go, right?
Yeah.
Do you want to always pay attention to your dog?
Your dog will let you know.
Like you know your dog best.
You know how many miles your dog can go.
You know.
You .. There some dogs that are a little more rugged, they can take, you know, a eight mile hike up the mountains.
Other dogs want to have, like a more of a chill walk, you know, two miles.
So, you know, you know your dog and like humans, sometimes I'm like, I'm up for the challenge.
It's going to be a hike.
Other times I'm like, you know it.
Today it's all about chilling and having a, you know, looking around and taking photos and enjoying this beauty.
I mean, we look back there and how like again, that just takes your breath away.
We talked about hiking being good for the mind, body and soul.
It definitely is.
It is.
I mean, that is one .. And one of the reasons why we started the group, we just love hiking.
We love our dogs.
Why not do it together?
So getting outdoors, it's great for the body and the mind.
And now getting away from the city for a little bit and just enjoying what we have and nature, you know, and for them to write.
Definitely.
All right.
Just exercise.
I think they're ready to go.
All right.
My hiking buddies.
Are you ready?
All right.
Woo hoo!
Hiking buddies I love saying th.. Hike, Husky.
Let's go.
You grab, we go go go go.
I gotta go.
I can't say it enough.
My heart is so happy.
This has been so much fun for me and my hiking husky, my sweet boy, Yuki.
So.
And if your dog is capable and you're prepared, find a hike that's right for the both of you and go out.
Have some fun.
Explore.
Look at this.
All the beauty that .. All right, until next time.
We will see you guys out on the trails.
Bye bye.
Let's go.
Good job.
Yuki.
