About The Show
Based on the beloved and iconic collection of stories by best-selling author James Herriot, All Creatures Great and Small on MASTERPIECE has captivated audiences over five seasons with themes of community, kindness, romance and family. As viewers look forward to returning to Darrowby in Season 6, it’s time to raise a glass and make a toast to the most memorable moments in the past five seasons.
CHEERS TO THE YEARS! goes behind the scenes with the cast and creators to discuss the evolution of the series, from the books to the actors’ first impressions of each other to the cast’s fondness for the series pilot. It explores the characters — human and animal — and revisits their loves, losses, triumphs, struggles, growth, and joy.
Interviews with the cast include Nicholas Ralph (James Herriot), Anna Madeley (Mrs. Hall), Rachel Shenton (Helen Herriot), Samuel West (Siegfried Farnon), Callum Woodhouse (Tristan Farnon), Patricia Hodge (Mrs. Pumphrey), and James Anthony-Rose (Richard Carmody). Members of the creative team and crew also share their reflections on past seasons, including director Andy Hay, executive producer Colin Callender, and food stylist Bethany Heald, who reveals the secrets behind the mouthwatering dishes seen on screen.
Favorite animal moments are celebrated, including fan favorite Tricki, the pampered Pekingese, Siegfried’s rat and Jess, the loveable Golden Retriever. The cast discuss their most memorable scenes, including Mrs. Hall reuniting with her son, the exploding cow, the dead Budgie, and any scene where Mrs. Hall calls Siegfried by his full name: “Siegfried Donald Farnon.” Hands down the favorite toast is “Merry Bloody Christmas” in the Season 1 finale.
Working on a series for six seasons has allowed the actors to feel comfortable in their roles and form a family offscreen, a spirit that extends beyond the cast to the crew, many of whom have been involved since Season 1.
So raise a glass and gather round the Skeldale House dinner table, get warm by the fire, and visit with friends and neighbors at The Drovers Arms. CHEERS TO THE YEARS! shares favorite memories, moments of laughter and even a few that might bring tears.
